Benefits of Ammo-Phos® MAP on the ground

  • Good when a high phosphate supply is needed.
  • Well-suited for use with equipment that places fertiliser or seeds directly in the soil during planting, either in rows (drilling) or in narrow strips (banding).
  • Less risk of seed burning than DAP because it releases almost no free ammonia.
  • MAP-based products perform better on alkaline soils than DAP.

Application rates will vary, according to base soil fertility. For forage brassica crops, rates range around 150-250kg/ha.

Application rates are typically 400kg/ha in Mid October. Actual spreading rates will vary according to farm type, climate, productivity, soil type and crop type. Soil testing and fertiliser plans are available to ensure you use the right product at the correct rate.

As with most solid fertilisers, Ammo-Phos MAP can be stored over a season as long as it is kept in a cool, dry, well ventilated area.

Ammo-Phos fertilisers contain monoammonium phosphate (MAP), which is manufactured by chemically reacting one molecule of ammonia with one molecule of phosphoric acid. Diammonium phosphate (DAP) is made the same way, except that two molecules of ammonia are reacted with each molecule of phosphoric acid. As MAP has only half as much ammonia in proportion to the phosphate, there is virtually no release of free ammonia, and therefore can be sown closer to seed compared to DAP.

MAP has been found to be superior on alkaline soils, due to (i) its acid nature (compared to DAP, which has a slight alkaline effect) and (ii) the greater volume of soil enriched with phosphorus.

Although Ammo-Phos MAP generally mixes well with other products, it is not compatible with the following: Superphosphate and Magnesium Oxide.

Ammo-Phos MAP can be compatible with the following under certain circumstances: Sulphur Super 30.

Segregation may occur when mixed with products with differences in particle size. Flexi-N (magnesium coated Urea) can be used as a substitute when mixing with Superphosphate-based products.

Incompatible with: Sodium hypochlorite
